| Welcome to Virginia A. Boone Highland Oaks Elementary School. As the history of the oak trees that shade the school continually grows, so does the history of the school. I am personally part of that history as my children were students at Highland Oaks. Built in 1964, Highland Oaks Elementary School was, and still is, the neighborhood school. Although it has grown, VABHOE continues to retain its charm as a school that provides a nurturing, caring environment for all children. We know our students as individuals and work closely with their families and community to provide an education of excellence. |

In 1996, Highland Oaks Elementary School was renamed Virginia A. Boone Highland Oaks Elementary School in honor of its first principal. The high academic standards established by Mrs. Boone will continue with me. The many programs, including the environmental studies, science lab, fine arts, gifted, academic excellence, exceptional student education, and the strength of our academic skills instruction, have deservedly earned the fine reputation that our school has throughout the community. | |

| Understanding that our students must be prepared with technological skills, we have added many new multi-media computers, have Internet access in all classrooms in the main buildings, established a Technology Learning Center for class Internet and software usage, opened two resource labs for tutorial support, and house a closed circuit television studio for in-school broadcasting. Students are taught to integrate research, word processing, and graphic design through the use of technology. We are very proud of our school and know that once you visit, either through this web page tour or in person, you will share in the excitement and challenge of learning that fills the buildings and beautiful landscaping surrounding Virginia A. Boone Highland Oaks Elementary School. |
